I had a large black walnut tree that died. Every tree that I have planted in that area has also died. Don't know what it means. I had to plant my other trees 20 feet away from that area in order for them to survive.

I have black walnuts in the woods on my property. I haven't noticed a lack of plant growth nearby, other than a typical canopy effect, but will give it some thought and another look. I have observed that the area of growth greatly increased after Hurricane Hugo hit here in the 1980's. It was in September and the new nuts were on the trees. The fierce winds seem to have distributed them far away from the parent trees. There now are many walnut trees, instead of the few that were here before.
