Black Walnut Tree
This blog is me asking for your help. I am doing some heavy research on the effects of Black Walnut trees effecting the growth of other plants in the same area.
I am looking for stories of good and bad efforts to grow gardens or landscapes around Black Walnut trees. Thanks for your help on this research.

I have black walnuts in the woods on my property. I haven't noticed a lack of plant growth nearby, other than a typical canopy effect, but will give it some thought and another look. I have observed that the area of growth greatly increased after Hurricane Hugo hit here in the 1980's. It was in September and the new nuts were on the trees. The fierce winds seem to have distributed them far away from the parent trees. There now are many walnut trees, instead of the few that were here before.

That's really neat to hear about the Hurricane distributing the nuts!!

I had a large black walnut tree that died. Every tree that I have planted in that area has also died. Don't know what it means. I had to plant my other trees 20 feet away from that area in order for them to survive.
