I had someone ask me what I think about products like Patch Perfect the other day. Honestly, I had never heard of Patch Perfect before, so I had to go look it up. I found a one page website about it, and all it talks about is how you can spread it and forget it. What this product is supposed to be, is grass seed, mulch, and fertilizer all in one bag. They claim you just sprinkle the product out of the bag, onto the bare patch in the yard, walk away and next thing you know, there is no more bare patch.
I cannot attest to the performance of the product because I have never used it, but here is what I see from the one page website and video they have. They don’t tell you what grass seed they are giving you which can make a big difference as to where you live in the country. One bag cost $19.95 plus $7.95 s/h. That bag covers 100 sq. ft. Even the smallest postage stamp size lawns are 5,000 sq. ft. of grass areas. That means you will be spending roughly $1400 to do the entire lawn.
What is supposed to make this product special is they coat each seed in an insulated capsule with fertilizer attached to the capsule. They demonstrate that it grows on concrete blocks. I noticed they had an inch deep worth of these seeds in order to get it to grow on the concrete blocks. I can get any grass seed to grow anywhere when it is that thick.
They say spread it and forget it. They claim no watering, and the perfect lawn anywhere, including high traffic areas, shade, sun, drought, or wet areas. Well, first thing is, grass will not grow without water, everybody knows that. I know that not one grass seed will grow in the shade and sun areas. I would be very interested to try the product and see how close it comes to what they claim, but I am not paying almost $28 for 100 sq. ft. of grass seed!
